Super MOD Celluloid Drum Vintage Button Necklace

This funky necklace is one of my particular favourites! Hard to believe such funky modern looking buttons actually date from around the mid to late 1920’s. These black and cream buttons are particularly sought after and hard to come by. Believe it or not, some of the larger buttons in this necklace were still attached to the original cards they were purchased on, absolutely mint, never been used or handled. This style of buttons is called celluloid drum, which means they are hollow and backed by metal with free moving single black metal shanks. The smaller type are also hollow drums and feature celluloid shanks that are part of the actual back piece. The cream coloured celluloid is called Ivoroid, as it was originally made to simulate the look of ivory and this piece also features several buffed celluloid buttons. The necklace is finished with a single silver metal clasp fastener. Not only is this unique necklace beautiful to look at and wonderful to wear, the buttons used in its construction are rare and highly sought after by collectors.
